*Shels Studio Report – The Amp Bunker.

October 13, 2009 by *shels

Recording for *shels‘ 2nd studio Album is finally underway – having tracked the drums with Peter Miles (www.myspaace.com/petermiles) in the UK earlier this summer, the construction of a DIY studio at Shelsmusic HQ in Los Angeles commenced earlier this week.

Since we couldn’t escape into the wilderness to make this record as originally planned, we needed a sound-proof fortress built for the Peavey 5150, so we could blast the amp in peace without killing neighbours…  it’s called the amp bunker… kinda like a sex bunker.. but filthier and more brutal.

after a ton of blisters, splinters and a few tests, we’re happy to report it’s all working pretty well…  and we should begin tracking the first of the guitars tomorrow:)

for you gearslutz out there – you might be interested to know we’re using classical guitars through a 5150 combo dirty channel for our heavy guitar sound. The first 5 of you to email us at shels@shelsmusic.com after reading this will get to hear a sample :)

all hail the Amp Bunker of Doom!

“Thanks for all your patience and positive emails – we’ve been busily working on the new record and aiming to get it done in this summer – we know that if we went any slower we’d prob start moving backwards in time, but there’s just so much going into this record and we don’t want to rush it – we hope you’ll still be around when we finally wrap this up! We’re currently recording guitars and have been experimenting with lots of different sounds and setups… we should hopefully have everything wrapped up in the next month or so – everything is feeling awesome so far :) … we just can’t wait to share it with you. Thanks for your continued patience and support – we hope it’ll be worth the wait!” *shels

We’ll beat anyone else’s prices out there and make sure you walk away with an awesome sounding record – the only catch is, we’re busy mofos and might not be able to get to everyone, so send us your stuff and if we can bang our heads to it, then we’d love to help! :) – email info@shelsmusic.com for more info.

The album will be available for pre-order on September 7 from www.shelsmusic.com

Here’s the official press release! :)

It’s been a hell of a ride for UK Metal crew LATITUDES this last 2 years – having powered their way through the UK underground with crushing and monumental live performances, which have included shows and tours with the likes of Baroness, This Will Destroy You, Storm of Light, Devil Sold His Soul, Bossk, *Shels, The Mirimar Disaster and anappearance at Damnation festival with Carcass, Napalm Death and others – it’s difficult to consider the quintet from Hertfordshire have come so far off the back of an EP!

And while the world has been dreaming of Hope and the promise of Change, LATITUDES have continued their brutal dredge into deeper and darker musical terrain. Now, on the verge of unearthing their long awaited debut full-length “Agonist”, LATITUDES hopes to present an important contribution to the great halls of British Metal.

The album – which features the addition of keyboardist Rich Harper and vocal contributions by good friend and ex-Eden Maine vocalist, Adam Symonds – is a monumental piece of work. Symonds’ delicate yet piercing soft vocals hauntingly intertwine with brutal slabs of heavy and emotive doom-drenched guitars. The complete picture is mesmerizing in its originality and breathtaking in its power and brings to mind masters such as Neurosis, Enslaved and Mastodon.

Produced by Chris Fielding (Napalm Death, Electric Wizard) at Foel Studios in Wales, “Agonist” will crush you like a steel wrecking ball in a velvet glove – The album is set for an October 5 release through Shelsmusic and features 7 tracks clocking-in at over 40 minutes. Customers should be on the lookout for a limited edition vinyl version of the release available exclusively at shows or at shelsmusic.com.
